I started a post of bulleted points of amusement supplied by the knee-high brigade, but my memory has failed me and I was left with too short a list to stand alone. I should report, that Balance Man has the super power of balancing without putting out his arms. That one is funny. The rest were mediocre.
Today was a good day. Jack had a special day at school, he attended a play of Jillian Jiggs and the Pirates. I had planned to veg out at home, but by 9:00am it became evident that if the Moose and Tink didn't kill each other, I may have done away with them both myself. Little Miss has become quite the b*tch - I'm sorry to say. She LOVES to torment her brothers, who seldom fight back but choose to whine as loud as possible in the hopes that a parent may see the injustice and intervene. This morning Elliot was working hard to build a "house" withe cushions on the couch and PJ sat on it because, well just because she could. She also likes to take something a brother may be using and run with it. She laughs. He cries. He chases her around the room, much to her delight. If she's not tormenting them, she's trying to convince them to drive to McD's or the movies with her; "Hop in me Purple Car, Lala! Jack, hop in me Purple Car!" (made from mixing her imagination with her purple blanket). So, I started looking for free things to do in Halifax to get us out of the house and off each other's nerves.
We ended up at the library for their preschool drop in programme - a songs and stories Circle Time followed by station play including crafts, playdoh, toys, puzzles, puppets and dressup. Today was Eric Carle, which is one of our favourites! Early in the session I noticed a blonde mom who had a blonde girl and an Asian girl who looked to be about the same age. After getting my munsters interested in the playdoh, I approached the mom and asked if both girls were hers. She said yes with a little annoyance, but once I shared that we were waiting on confirmation of our referral her tone changed and she was very excited to chat. She shared some travel tips with me - mostly "must do's" and "don't bothers". She warned me about some of the stupid questions and comments she gets as a mom of two very different girls. She assured me that like so many other children from China, her daughter demonstrated a delay in skills that was quickly overcome once they were home in Canada, which was sooo nice to hear, again.
From the library we ran a couple of errands and came home for lunch. Before too long it was time to meet Jack at the bus. After some downtime we headed to swimming lessons, which was the beginning of the rush to bedtime that included lessons, dinner, bedtime routines.
You'll note there's no mention of any news by phone or email. I'm disappointed, but not surprized. I felt better about it today - was able to concentrate on other things, enjoy my time with the kids and be productive at home. I'm not sure why I was more settled today. Part of it is I felt more sure today that Chun Wen is doing well and the report will show us her potential. Since I feel confident that will be the outcome, the time it happens is not as important. It's hard to explain but the other side of that coin is I feel more at peace with the idea that if the report is not good, we need to keep looking for Anna. Those two thoughts are contradictory, but somehow equally settling.
So, tomorrow is Tuesday and I'm back to work. I hope I can concentrate better this week than I did last. I ask that you continue your prayers and well wishes for Chun Wen and her progress.
