This was suggested on a blog I read from time to time - that the author recount where they were 5, 10, 15, 20 years ago... I thought I'd give it a whirl.
Five Years Ago...
I was a mom to one, enjoying my maternity leave. We had been in our house almost a year. Steve was working downtown Halifax. He'd carpool into work in the morning and Jack and I would pick him up in the afternoon. My days were spent attending play groups, library classes. We took Rookie to the park every day, met people for lunch, slept when the baby slept and attended Reel Babies matinee movies for moms... nice life, eh?
Ten Years Ago...
I was at Acadia University, finishing my third year. I had just realized I did not want to be a doctor, since I now had the Man of My Dreams and didn't think I could be both a good doc and a good wife/mother. Course, knowing I didn't want to do medicine left me without any other ideas which was very frightening for me. I spent that summer working in the Immunology Lab killing cells meant for my Honours research. We adopted two kitties and got engaged in August.
Fifteen Years Ago...
I was in 11th grade at Cawthra Park Secondary School. High school was not the best years of my life, though I did enjoy it. I was very busy, always on a school sports team - not the best player, but committed and played hard. In the winter season, I played basketball 7-8 times a week, in the summer I played and coached softball 4-5 times a week. In the fall and spring seasons I made up the time participating on other teams just to do something. I was a self driven straight A student, active in the school's theatre productions. I had a small but close knit group of friends who I still miss to this day.
Twenty Years Ago...
Things are getting foggy. I was 12, in Middle school? 7th Grade, I think. I had three close friends, one of whom is on my Facebook, the other two I've looked for unsuccessfully. I remember defending Ben Johnson, writing his name on my pencil case. I remember turf wars with a boy in our class for which we kept track of what days he wore which pants and cheated on trivia contests. That year I had my first crush, that I remember, but was too scared to talk to him even though he and I had been in school together since kindergarten, likely. That was the year I was introduced to basketball and real visual art, and I remember clearly the two teachers who were instrumental in those initiations of what became two of my biggest passions.
Twenty Five Years Ago...
I *think* that is the year we moved from the town house to the house I spent most of my time at home in. I remember that my mother let me pick the paper for my bedroom and I picked the most girlie pink and baby blue flowered one there. I had white eyelet drapes. I readTrixie Belden books back to back to back... It was the next year that I met my best friend, Julie for whom Paxten Julia is named and who is crazy enough to want to travel around the world with us.
