Pride

Jack played in his piano recital today. To be embarrassinly honest, I did not want to go and considered not taking him. He chose to play Mary Had a Little Lamb with a little convincing when we told him the C-scale would not cut it. Jack started music classes in September, but only really started practicing the past few months when we set a rule that he needed to practice piano before Playstation. The recital was for all his teacher's students. I imagined a couple hours of repeated Mary renditions, and suspected my performance-shy little man would back out of performing last minute. We went because he seemed interested and he practiced all week with limited manipulation. When we got there, I was even more nervous for him. There were at least 50 people there (all other students and their parents) and Jack's name was first on the programme.

The emcee (the music teacher's husband, filling in for her b/c she's home on bedrest at the end of her pgcy) welcomed everyone and then called Jack to the front. My little man took his book in his arms, walked up to the front and sat at the piano. He played Mary had a Little Lamb better than he had ever played it before, with accurate notes, rhythm and timing, not to mention concentration, confidence and composure. He relished in the applause and returned to his seat with the biggest smile of accomplishment on his face. I am SO proud of him!
