Pawtty Tawlk

The title is much more effective if you read it with an accent of a Jewish woman from the city - like "Cawfee Tawlk" on SNL.

AnnaWen has wet the bed every night but two since we've been home. We were told she was toilet trained in her referral paperwork from December of 2007. This was confirmed with our update questions in April, and again in the interview with the nanny when we met her, specifically answering she does not need a diaper at night. I would assume the reports were inaccurate (as much of it can be) except she was dry every night in China for two weeks. (Well, she had one accident but that was b/c she fell asleep while we were out in the evening and never had a bedtime pee). So I'm sure she was able to get through the night without an accident before we got home.

That leaves me with two reasons I can think of: 1. Trauma induced regression of skills, or 2. Adjustment to time difference... still. We're 1.5 weeks into our time change, still within range of being affected by a complete day to night shift for her body, but becoming less and less likely as time goes on. Last night PJ came down to us at 230. I snuggled her for a bit, but took her back up to her bed in the fear that Wen would wake up alone and be scared. I tucked Tink in and checked on Wen and she was wet, and it was cold. I'm not sure what that means. Originally I assumed she was peeing late in her sleep, before waking up, but if she's peeing early in her sleep what is the cause? My middle of the night anxiety painted a picture of her lying down at bedtime, so terrified of being there that she pees herself. I don't think this illustration is realistic - she lets us know when she's scared at other times, and typically falls asleep very quickly at night - but the only difference between here and China in terms of sleeping arrangements is the fact that we were in her room there.

I have no problems with her wetting herself at night, she's still young to be dry all night anyway. I just want to approach it properly - if it's just a short term transitional thing, I'd rather just do laundry than put her back into a diaper. But if it's going to be a long term thing, I feel badly not acting right away. I don't know what to do. Now that I realize she is wet early (at least sometimes) I'm pushed to using the pullups now, it's different to be wet for the last half hour, but if she's been spending nights like that... poor girl.

The interesting side affect to all this is all of the sudden Little Miss has decided to wear undies at night instead of pullups. Until now, she has worn pullups to sleep, and 9 times out of 10 wakes up with a very full one. She was quite indignant that Xiao Jie got to wear undies to bed and wanted to do likewise. I figured since I was doing Wen's bed, I might as well give Tink the chance to try and she's been dry for 5 nights now. I'll never figure this gig out.

Hmmm, I have no suggestions other than waking her to pee a short while into her sleep??

I have no idea really, jsut wanted to offer my support

I was going to suggest the same - get her up to pee maybe an hour after you put her to bed, see if that helps. Otherwise, I don't think it would be a bad thing to go to pull-ups. It's hard (ok impossible) to know what the right answer is, just go with your gut!

Don't knoe honey but I agree. I would put her on the toilet before you go to bed. If she is peeing BEFORE that, I would use pull ups. I would hazard a guess that is is afraid to come out and tell you since you told me when you were here, that kids usually are put to bed and then...SO NOT STIR (like kids from here do...up down up down etc)
But in the long sceem of things...I do not think it matters other than she is sleeping in a wet, cold, smelly bed.
Given by the one who wet her bed for years!
