No Midnight Report - take 2.

I posted earlier, then deleted it while trying to C&P to save it somewhere else in case it was deleted...

I slept better last night! Our plan was to stay up later so we added a walk down the street to our evening routine. Julie and I read, with a target of 10pm but only made it to 945. I woke up at 430, but fell back to sleep shortly thereafter until 630. Julie and Steve were not so lucky... both woke up at 3 and spent time awake. Julie fell asleep again around 5 but Steve went and ran up and down the stairwell.

AnnaWen continues to do well. She is talking a LOT and it kills me to know we're missing what she's saying. At a store yesterday the guide said she was talking about the Lattern Festival. She'll pick up the phone and carry on full conversations. We're trying to get it on tape for someone to translate for us later. I think she's starting to figure out that we don't understand her. She'll say something, then look at us and repeat a word or phrase very slowly with a slight "Listen moron, one more time" look on her face. She's repeating a lot of words now, basically if she's in the mood she'll repeat any single word I offer up. I'm not sure she knows what it means, but she's enjoying the game. I don't know how we lucked into her... she's bright, funny, engaging, loving... no special need in sight.

She's doing things that I hope are early signs of attachment, though I know it's way to early to say. She's giving hugs and kisses. Yesterday after lunch when I picked her up she squeezed my neck and patted my back. While on Steve's shoulders she kissed the top of his head. Last night a storekeeper asked Wen something about her Mama and she pointed to me and said "Mama". At the museum, she saw Steve across the lobby, yelled "BABA!" and ran to him. Too early to draw conclusions, but so far, so really really great.

We're seeing some signs of aggression. We're traveling with a three year old and she was squeezing her arm and trying to scratch her. While Steve was holding her in a store she bit him twice, but seemed to understand the consequence of being put down and didn't do it a third time. I've got to get the guide to tell me how to say 'gentle' again. However it still seems to be 'testing' and she did a lot less of it yesterday than she did the day before.

Well, cross your fingers this posts (though if you're reading, that would be unnecessary). Today we go to a park and to the zoo.

Oh my goodness she is gorgeous Natalie! Yes, you definitely are blessed and so is she to have wonderful parents like you and Steve. She sounds like an absolutely fantastic child with a beautiful disposition! Amazing.

You deserve it, just wait to she meets the other kiddies, oh fun fun fun! :)
