Back before I made a change in my eating and lifestyle last year, donuts were one of my favourite treats. Not just any donut, but Tim's - usually a Boston Creme or a Double Chocolate, but there's no such thing as a bad Tim's donut. When I started watching what I ate and counting numbers, I realized how bad donuts were and can count on less than one hand the number I've eaten since January 2007. Same with butter tarts, but MAN they're good, aren't they?
This morning I had two donuts.
I freely admit to being both a carb addict and an emotional eater. When I'm stressed or upset I crave breads, cereal, sweets... I feel an instant physical comfort with my first spoonful of warm, sweet oatmeal.
The morning started with a mad rush to the grocery store to put a last minute order in for Jack's bday cake - his party (to which very few of his friends seem to be able to come) is tomorrow. Then we headed to the eye doc for checkups for the boys. Both are healthy, with 20/20 vision, which is interesting since Jack was prescribed glasses last year. Apparently with growth eyes can go back and forth on that. The doc was great, but the tech was impatient and demanding of the boys. While Jack wiggled in his chair she sighed and grumped at me "Can you help him? he needs to stay still". I reminded her "He IS six.". UGH. To top it off, neither MSI nor our health plan covered Jack's appointment since it was his second in two years.
Then we went to the bank. Has anyone cried at the bank? I very nearly did. The kids were almost perfect, except for one tantrum from Elliot in which he flung his limbs and kicked the desk because I took his video game away from him. I did that because he was wrestling Paxten for it. I needed to withdrawal our cash, which needed to be in clean, crisp $100 bills of USD. But purchasing our USD maxed our LOC, leaving no room to purchase the traveller's cheques I needed as well. The thought that we'd need more for our in country travel expenses brought a kick to my stomach and tears to my eyes. Luckily, Elliot distracted me with more flailing and I was able to discipline him and distract myself.
I promised the kids a treat for behaving so well at the doc's and the bank, so we headed to Tim's. With my stress inoverdrive, I ate two donuts.
The one saving grace of the day - I called our agency to get an estimate on the in country travel fees (which are higher than I had estimated :( ) and found out that our itinerary is changed - we get to meet AnnaWen on Sunday instead of Monday!!! I gasped and started to cry, and told her she had made my day... my two donut morning may turn into a three donut morning if I eat the remaining one in celebration!
