Ode to the Old

Folks that is...

My parents are headed back to Toronto, fine dining in Bangor Maine right now. They were here for a little over a week, which always seems short the day they leave.

While Steve and I grumble about our bad luck, we are actually very blessed, which started when we were borne to our respective parents. We are both very fortunate in our parental units. Our parents have shown us both unconditional love, support and direction through our childhoods into university, in our young marriage and early parenting roles. When we mentioned adopting they managed to disguise any hesitation or doubt they may have felt behind genuine interest and excitement.

This past week alone my parents have been generous with their time, energy and money, helping around the house, entertaining and loving on the Munsters, picking up the tab on necessities and splurging on "extras" we haven't been able to enjoy lately (you know, eating out, new clothes, paper towels :D ).

I know we don't express or demonstrate gratitude enough. We say "thank you" but it is weak and insufficient. I don't have the words, nor the composure, to demonstrate our gratitude for their love, support and generosity to us and our children. I guess the best I can do is make sure they're enrolled in a mostly-good nursing home when (or before) the time comes. :)

We love you,

N
