It's a BOY!

Steve needed to get some work done today so the kids and I got out of the house for "an adventure" as I told them. We ran a few errands squeezed in between "something different" events - the waterfront, the mall and a playground with a splash area - just because.

We went to the mall because Jack NEEDED a stuffed mouse. At the fourth store, where we finally found the mouse, we also found a superhero game on clearance that Elliot wanted and I couldn't resist the price. So that left Little Miss needing something too, and she found a doll, which in itself is not in the least bit surprizing. The dolls were cute, plastic with only a diaper on, with realistic and varying facial expressions, skin tones and eye colour. After looking them all over, she settled on one with blue eyes and a big, open mouthed grin.

We took the items to the counter and the cashier informed us that PJ's doll was "anatomically correct" so she could actually choose if she wanted a boy or a girl. I didn't think she'd care but asked her anyway "Do you want a boy or a girl?" and she quickly said "Boy." Surprized at her speedy and assured response, I said "this one is a girl, do you want this one or a boy?" and she insisted "BOY!" so we went back to the display to check inside the diapers of the other babies. The cashier found one first, and said "here's a boy!". Tink looked up at her with a very serious voice and expression and asked "Does it have a penis?". I think it nearly knocked the poor girl off her feet. She assured PJ that he did have a penis, and I asked her if that was the baby she wanted. She said yes, but asked to check herself "Can I see his penis, please?". And so, Baby Ben has joined our family, Tink's only son amoung her dozens of daughters. I was glad she went with my suggestion of Ben instead of Jack's suggestion, 'Penis'.
