Yesterday I went to a beach with two other moms and their kids. With Kelly's permission, I pulled Lily out of daycare so she could come too, so we had nine kids in total (two almost six year olds, three just four year olds, 3 two year olds and 1 at 18months). We had a blast. The kids LOVED the waves, loved the sand, loved playing with each other. We sat in chairs and chatted, chased kids, snacked, chased kids, regooped and chased kids some more. Fantastic. The most chaotic moments occured AFTER the beach, when we hit the DQ on the way home - all of us. Nine kids is A LOT. Nine kids under 6 is a zoo. Nine kids under 6 eating icecream is a natural disaster.
Today was another whirlwind of activities. I had a baby shower to attend, the kids had a 6th birthday pool party to attend, so we split up for a few hours in the midday. Afterwards we met up, did some shopping - PJ helped me pick out a bathing suit for Annie - then headed to a two game soccer tournament. I have never liked soccer. Any sport wherein 20 people run around a huge field for hours and only score once seems pretty silly to me. BUT, if instead of 20 grown people, you put 3-5 yr olds four-a-side for ten minute halves, it's pretty awesome.
Tomorrow we have church in the morning, soccer in the afternoon, but it should be a more relaxed day. It's supposed to be beautiful out so hopefully we can swim a bit and play outside.
