Awesome weekend so far...

... and it's only Saturday!!!

Thursday was Canada Day, and Steve had Friday off too - just by luck the boss didn't have work for him to do that day. SOOO, we woke up leisurely on Thursday and headed to the Valley to celebrate E's and Steve's bdays. Thursday I managed a three hour nap!!! When I woke up, I convinced Steve to take us strawberry picking. We had a turkey dinner complete with Lemon Poke Cake and Strawberry Shortcake. Thursday night we took the kids down to the fireworks, which were pretty impressive for a tiny little town.

Friday I slept in, then got up and went banking and shopping with PJ. We headed out to pick up Gram and bring her back for the festivities. Back at the house, we made "freezer jam" as per the boys' request with our pickings. I'm not sure how it'll turn out, but when you mix strawberries with sugar at a ratio of 1:2, it can't be bad, can it? We had a barbeque dinner, cake and presents for Elliot's family party (with Steve tacked on as well). Steve and I drove Gram home and headed to bed early where I read my book for over an hour. Mmmm.

This morning started rough as Steve woke me up to announce our guest dog had peed on the couch and I should go "help" clean it up. What he really meant was "YOUR dog peed on the couch, go clean it up 'cause I'm sure as hell not". Pretty sneaky, eh? We got up and going and after I lost a game of Battleship to Jack, we went to the zoo! It was beautiful, warm but not hot, with a nice breeze... Most of the animals were out and about, except the big cats. We came back to the house and sat around doing not much of anything (I did some more reading), had a yummy dinner of leftovers (how do you choose between left over bbq and left over turkey?) and packed up the car to head home.

Usually we get home from such a trip late Sunday night, tired and facing an early rise and work/school in the morning. Not today! It's still only Saturday. AND we both have Monday off... so after a fantastic weekend away, we pretty much have a weekend at home too!
