I wouldn't call it "spur of the moment" but it was a bit impulsive - we decided to go to PEI for the weekend, about two weeks ago. We left Saturday morning (in truth, to save the cost of the cottage Friday night) and arrived at a very cool - but hot - camp ground early afternoon. We spent Saturday afternoon at the beach, came "home" for hotdogs and chips, then hit the pool until close. The kids played with sparklers in their pjs and climbed into bed.
Sunday morning we were first in line at Grandpa's Antique Photo Studio. Steve and I and Julie and I had pictures done there years before. The picture of Steve and I was done a few weeks before we were engaged, and has been on the wall in every place we've lived since. The last time we were in PEI was six years ago with my parents, a nearly two year old Jack and a very unhappy four month old Elliot. We had a picture done then, and it turned out very cute in spite of Jack's refusal to hold the props and Elliot's refusal to stop crying. SOOO, we've wanted to go back now that our family is complete while the kids are still cute. We even took Rookie. The kids had a blast dressing up and were totally cooperative - listening to me, to the photographers, perFECT. And the picture is AWESOME. We're certainly not going to scan it and post it later b/c that would be illegal. I should remind Steve that that should not be done tonight or tomorrow. After taking Rookie back to the campsite, we went to the Ripley's Believe it or Not museum then took the kids, armed with $10 each, to shop on the Boardwalk. We had Cows icecream for lunch - YUM, then headed back to the beach. We didnt' stay long that time - there were TONNES of jellyfish - big gross ones! and so swimming was not much fun. We packed it in and went back to the pool at the hotel.
That night I rented bikes for Jack and Elliot to ride. Elliot had never ridden a two wheeler, but he's so crazy on his bike I figured I'd push him forward. I kid you not, he got on and rode away. More sparklers, then bedtime again - by that time the kids were exhausted. Monday morning Steve took the kids to the pool while I packed and cleaned hte cottage. We piled into the car and headed home.
It was a wonderfully perfect weekend! The weather was awesome, the activities were fun and inclusive. We spent hours just hanging out and playing with no distractions of work, home, reno projects, sports, friends... just us. I loved every second.
Now I have to navigate this new format to figure out how to post pictures...
