As I've mentioned, rumours for the next batch have been great. Some even predicted Nov 2 -21 would be matched, which is more than I remember being done in the months I've been waiting and watching. That exciting rumour hung in the air, waiting for that second proverbial footwear to plummet. It did today, hitting me on the head. It appears to be a steel-toed boot, to -ahem- boot.
New rumours put the cut off at November 7, a lousy six days.
I tried very hard not to believe the good rumours, but they stuck around for so long, I think most of us thought they had some legitimacy. I'm actually not as bummed as I thought I'd be if/when the bad rumours started, maybe I'm learning to guard my expectations, even in the presence of hope and excitement. I'm putting all my eggs in the "December is smaller, will start to move faster" basket. If this 5-10 day batch pattern is the new norm, I don't know where that leaves us.
After dinner tonight I took the kids out to play in the yard. We have a swingset with four individual swings and a tire swing. The kids have all claimed their own swing and were laughing about Jack and Paxten switching at that moment (it really IS hilarious to swing on one that is not one's own). One of the middle swings is an infant swing that was used by Elliot and Paxten in their younger days - PJ refuses to go in it now, she has caught on to the fact that she was often put in to keep her in one safe spot. It is noticibly empty when we're in the yard. I was thinking that swing will be empty next summer - no way we have Anna before then. I was hoping she'd be home with us to use it the summer after. Perhaps I should take it down altogether, open the spot for another big-kid swing for friends, put the infant swing in the basement for a summer in the future? I dunno if I could do that either.
