We play "I Spy" in the car, quite a bit, sometimes to keep kids awake, sometimes to keep kids quiet, and sometimes at their request just for fun. It's been funny watching Wen participate in the game. Originally her "I Spy" turn was quite short: "I spy... my HAT!" (lots of cheering and laughter). She's got the hang of offering up a colour and guessing based on colour, but got mad today when Tink said she hadn't guessed right:
PJ: I spy wif my little eye, som'fin' that is PINK! (shocker there... I once played the game from home all the way to Amy's and only offered up pink things: hats, jackets, backpacks, boots, snowpants, mits, dolls, books, shirts, pants, socks... all times two).
AnnaWen (with great pride and gusto): My SHOES!
PJ: Nope.
AW: Yes, they're pink!
PJ: That's not it, som'fin' else that's pink.
AW: NO! My SHOES!
She was indignant that she had guessed something pink and had been told she hadn't guessed right. She refused to give any more guesses. When it was her turn, she took matters into her own hands:
AW: I spy wif my wil eye, som'in PINK! (yes, again with the pink).
PJ: (... several random guesses of things pink in hue...)
AW (ignoring PJ completely): ummm, my shirt.. no, that purple... ummm, my SHOES! YES! MY SHOES! (cheering and laughter).
Finally her game evolved into the most complex version of a three year old's I Spy, The Sibling Taunting Lie:
AW: I spy wif my wil eye, som'in GREEN!
PJ: (... several random guesses of things green in hue, each offered with building frustration and desparation).
AW: Nope... nope... um, nope... nope... nope... nope... nope... (you get the picture).
PJ: Momma! We can't FIND it!
Momma: Who thought of it?
PJ: AnnaWen!
Momma: Wen? Did you think of something green?
AW: Yup.
Momma: What did you think of that's green? what is it?
AW (looking quickly around her): um... ummm.... the GRASS!
:)
