Cold weekend morning

It's Sunday, already.

We had some people over for a Christmas Dinner Friday night... two of us stayed up until 6am discussing serious world issues and arguing over movies. Yesterday was some last minute shopping - lesson learned: do NOT ask your five year old what he MOST wants from Santa when you think you're done shopping. Then Glenda and I went to a movie last night. This morning I woke up rotten sick. I got up with the kids, but went to bed when Steve came out. He has escaped to the basement to do something himself and I'm concocting a plan to go back into hiding when he surfaces... except I bet he's onto that intent so it may be a long time.

I emailed back and forth with our agency contact last week about who is in line ahead of us and what her expectations for the programme are. I'm not sure how the numbers work. She explained again that the order of processing is a combination of the date we signed up and the needs we've listed as being able to accept. The needs of the child matching with the listed needs of the parent trumps time waiting, but within that priority families are matched in the order they signed up. I don't think it's a complicated concept, and I get it... I guess my questions weren't specific enough to express what information I needed. From her email on Friday, there are only FOUR families ahead of us... Even though I understand the process, I'm not totally clear on how they organize their families to get that number. Perhaps "four" means there are four families ahead of us who have listed the same needs we have? Perhaps there are "four" families ahead of us in time alone. Perhaps there are "four" families ahead of us who have identified a more open mind with respect to needs. I don't know.

When we signed up, our contact was pretty sure we'd receive a referral in the March/April batch. She didn't say one way or the other this past week, just reiterated it all depends on the number of children and the needs the children present with, which I know and understand. I'm going to keep my mind set on June, if not September, and if it happens sooner, we'll be pleasantly surprized. I'm not sure how much disappointment I have left in me.
